DELIVERED MAY 26, 2015 BEFORE THE OTTAWA COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
This past January I spoke before this Board in
defense of the Hagar Park sign with the text from God's holy word. As I stated then, the larger issue is whether
we as a people not only individually but also corporately will honor and follow
the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ as directed in the Bible. The Bible is clear on this topic, as
evidenced in the following scriptural texts as well as many others:
Psalm 2:10-12 : “Be wise
now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth. Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with
trembling. Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his
wrath is kindled but a little."
Psalm 33:12 : "Blessed
is the nation whose God is the LORD."
Psalm 22: 27-28 : "All
the ends of the world shall remember and turn unto the LORD: and all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before thee. For the kingdom is the LORD'S: and
he is the governor among the nations."
Romans 13:4 : "…if thou do that which is
evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in
vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute
wrath upon him that doeth evil."
Revelation 11:15 :
"And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven,
saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord,
and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and
ever."
For this reason I and others ask the Ottawa County
Board of Commissioners to adopt the following resolution:
"We acknowledge Jesus Christ as Supreme Lord
and King of the earth, and therefore also of this county. We seek by God's grace to follow Him in
accordance with Biblical principles."
The wording of this resolution has been suggested
and endorsed by the consistory of the Covell Avenue
Netherlands Reformed Church.
Without taking such a stand, I fear how far we are
likely to fall, becoming a modern day version of Sodom and Gomorrah. Indeed, the issue of sodomy and so called
"gay marriage", which is a counterfeit according to the Bible, is
very much upon us. Will we stand with
Jesus Christ and Biblical principles individually and as a County, or will we
cave into the rebellion against God which has come to characterize our nation,
with all of its ill consequences?
Neutrality with respect to Jesus Christ and His word is a myth, whether
for an individual or a civil government.
We are duty bound to honor the Lord Jesus Christ and uphold Biblical
moral principles as summarized in the Ten Commandments.
It is my prayer,
along with the prayer of other Christians in this County, that we might as a
people repent and return to the paths of our Pilgrim and Puritan forefathers.
