Appearance versus Reality in the Fight Against Covid-19 by J. Parnell McCarter

This is the third article in a series exploring the questionable conduct of Dr. Fauci related to Covid-19. The others are at http://www.puritans.net/articles/fauci.htm and http://www.puritans.net/articles/fauci2.htm .

Dr. Anthony Fauci (head of NIAID [National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases]) and Daniel O’Day (head of Gilead Sciences, Inc.) give the appearance of charity in the fight against Covid-19, but the underlying reality in these two Jesuit-connected leaders is quite different.  This should not surprise us, for we read this in II Corinthians 11:14-15: “And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.  Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.

The appearance of charity of O’Day and Gilead Sciences is obvious:

“Now that the Food and Drug Administration has authorized remdesivir for emergency use in seriously ill COVID-19 patients, the experimental drug is another step closer to full approval. That's when most drugs get price tags. Gilead Sciences, which makes remdesivir, is donating its initial supply of 1.5 million doses, but the company has signaled it will need to start charging for the drug to make production sustainable. "Going forward, we will develop an approach that is guided by the principles of affordability and access," Gilead CEO Daniel O'Day told shareholders during the company's annual meeting Wednesday… If the price is based just on the cost of making the drug, then a 10-day course of remdesivir should cost about $10, according to the ICER report. (Gilead said results of a recently completed study suggest a five-day course of treatment may be just as effective.) But if the drug is priced based on the drug's effectiveness, ICER estimates it should cost around $4,500 — assuming the drug is proven to have some benefit on mortality. If it doesn't and the drug only shortens hospital stays, that value-based price goes down to $390. Results from a federally funded study described by Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Diseases, suggested that remdesivir could reduce recovery time by a median of four days — 11 days to recovery for patients treated with remdesivir compared with 15 days for those who got a placebo.” - https://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2020/05/08/851632704/putting-a-price-on-covid-19-treatment-remdesivir

Unmentioned above though is the reality that remdesivir is of very little use in changing mortality rate given the way it is now administered, and also likely of very little use for anything else with Covid-19, as noted at https://www.statnews.com/2020/04/23/data-on-gileads-remdesivir-released-by-accident-show-no-benefit-for-coronavirus-patients/ :

“The antiviral medicine remdesivir from Gilead Sciences failed to speed the improvement of patients with Covid-19 or prevent them from dying, according to results from a long-awaited clinical trial conducted in China. Gilead, however, said the data suggest a “potential benefit.” A summary of the study results was inadvertently posted to the website of the World Health Organization and seen by STAT on Thursday, but then removed.”

Dr. Fauci and others in the Federal Government have made sure Gilead was federally funded for remdesivir testing and for getting it FDA approved, as noted at https://www.bizjournals.com/sanfrancisco/news/2020/05/04/gileads-drug-pricing-in-the-crosshairs-again-in.html?cx_testId=6&cx_testVariant=cx_1&cx_artPos=0#cxrecs_s :

"Gilead's vague assurances are not enough," the group said, adding that the U.S. government should license Gilead's patents and Congress should enact "reasonable" pricing legislation. "This is the company that gave us the $1,000 pill. Remdesivir has benefiited at every stage from taxpayer funding, totaling a minimum of $60 million." The trial that was the basis of Friday's FDA emergency use authorization was run by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.”

In contrast, more promising routes like zinc + hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin are essentially being rigged from approved use, as explained by Dr. Chris Martenson at https://www.peakprosperity.com/second-waves-of-coronavirus-infections-are-pretty-much-guaranteed/ .

So Dr. Fauci and Mr. O’Day are foisting upon the American public snake oil with the appearance of great charity, while the US taxpayer has ponied up much of the money in preparation for its use against Covid-19. Snake oil seems to pay handsomely for Gilead though, judging by the performance of its stock price since the Covid-19 pandemic began, and no doubt Daniel O’Day’s stock options have done quite well at a time many other securities fell:

This snake oil is being distributed across the USA by none other than the US Federal Government, as reported at https://www.businessinsider.com/government-announces-plans-to-distribute-gilead-coronavirus-drug-remdesivir-2020-5 :

The federal government finally announced initial plans to distribute Gilead's coronavirus drug remdesivir after days of confusion

The article at https://www.zerohedge.com/markets/trust-being-undermined-harvard-medical-school-prof-questions-faucis-shading-vaccine-results shows how questionable remdesivir and Moderna’s vaccine are, along with Dr. Fauci’s touting of them:

“The most recent example is Moderna’s claim Monday of favorable results in its vaccine trial, which it announced without revealing any of the underlying data. The announcement added billions of dollars to the value of the company, with its shares jumping almost 20 percent. Many analysts believe it contributed to a 900-point gain in the Dow Jones industrial average...The National Institutes of Health announced last month that the drug remdesivir offered a clear benefit to covid-19 patients with moderate disease, shortening the length of their hospital stay by several days. But did it really? Twenty days after the announcement, the supporting data has still not been published. Without the data, no doctor treating a patient can be sure they are doing the right thing.

Another paper, published the same day, found that remdesivir had no measurable effect on patient survival or the amount of virus detectable in nasopharynx and lung secretions. What then should a practicing physician do? Follow the unsupported advice of a news announcement or a medical report published in a leading scientific journal? This is not an idle question: The NIH announcement triggered a global stampede for limited supplies of the drug…”

https://www.statnews.com/2016/09/13/moderna-therapeutics-biotech-mrna/ reported Moderna’s shady character, yet Dr. Fauci is touting it: https://www.wcvb.com/article/dr-fauci-moderna-covid-19-vaccine-update-us-senate-may-12-2020/32447392# .

Meanwhile, Dr. Fauci is setting the stage for himself to come out of the next few months smelling like a rose.  The best projections, such as at https://www.mailman.columbia.edu/public-health-now/news/projections-suggest-potential-late-may-covid-19-rebound , suggest the following:

“The latest data modeling projections by Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health scientists estimate that, nationally, new COVID-19 cases and deaths will rebound in late May, as states ease stay-at-home orders and social contacts increase. By June 1, one projection scenario gives median estimates of 43,353 cases per day and 1,841 deaths per day in the United States. A second scenario with a greater progressive loosening of restrictions projects median estimates of 63,330 cases per day and 2,443 deaths per day by June 1…As infections rise where stay-at-home orders are lifted, hospital critical care capacity in those states will be stressed in ways already seen in hard-hit areas like New York City.

Dr. Fauci has very publicly warned the following:

‘It’s going to backfire’: Fauci warns against reopening too quickly amid coronavirus crisis - https://www.post-gazette.com/business/career-workplace/2020/04/20/Fauci-says-reopening-too-quickly-will-backfire-coronavirus-pandemic/stories/202004200077

This is in contrast to many others, especially conservative Republicans, including President Trump, Vice-President Pence, many State governors, etc. So if there are widespread cases and many deaths, as likely will be the case, Dr. Fauci will come out of this smelling like a rose to much of the public.  This will truly be ironic, given the underlying reality of Dr. Fauci’s conduct as documented in this series.

We close with one final thought found in I Samuel 16:7: “…the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart.
