The
Two Babylons of Revelation
by J. Parnell McCarter

The Book of Revelation divides Christian history
into a series of 3 main periods of judgment:
-
The opening of the 7 seals
-
The blowing of the 7 trumpets
-
The pouring of the 7 bowls
The following verses in the Book of Revelation
reference “Babylon”: 14:8, 16:19, 17:5, 18:2, 18:10, and 18:21. It should be
noted that all except 14:8 are associated with the
period of the pouring of the 7 bowls. Revelation 14:8, on the other hand, is associated
with the period of the blowing of the 7 trumpets, and reads as follows:
“And there followed another angel, saying, Babylon is fallen,
is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of
the wrath of her fornication.”
This Babylon of Revelation 14:8 refers to the political
entity of the Beast described in Revelation 13, the Holy Roman Empire of the
Papacy working with civil imperial ruler during the Middle Ages. The Protestant Reformation led to the fall
from superpower status of this entity.
The Romish Papacy with its Jesuit army had to
contrive a new “Babylon” for the modern, post-Reformation age, and so they
did. It has been no less than the USA
based in Washington, DC. By progressive steps it has become a modern “Babylon”.
Despite its period of greatness, this modern “Babylon” is destined for
destruction:
“And the ten horns which thou sawest
upon the beast, these shall hate the whore, and shall make her desolate and
naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire. For God hath put
in their hearts to fulfil his will, and to agree, and give their kingdom unto
the beast, until the words of God shall be fulfilled.” – Revelation 17:16-17
A reincarnated Holy Roman Empire will thus
likely bring down the modern “Babylon” of the USA from superpower status and
assume it again for itself. However, this restored superpower “beast and false
prophet” itself will fall:
“And the beast
was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him,
with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them
that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire
burning with brimstone.” – Revelation 19:20
