BOOK REVIEW: THE ENCYCLOPEDIA PURITANNICA PROJECT CD VERSION 2.0

Reviewer: J. Parnell McCarter

The Encyclopedia Puritannica Project (www.puritannica.com) has helpfully made available to the public this CD that all those who embrace the faith of our Puritan forefathers should desire to have.  It contains a wealth of Puritan resources, with works by Thomas Watson, Richard Sibbes, Thomas Manton, and John Owen - to name but a few.  Plus it contains works by theologians and ministers since that time who have sought to defend and maintain the distinctive Puritan creed.   It also contains the Authorized Version of the Bible, as well as the 1650 Scottish Psalter.  There is one work on it that it is objectionable, however: William Matheson’s “May Sabbath Keeping Prevent Church Going”.  Mr. Matheson has erred in his logic and conclusions, as explained in the article at http://www.puritans.net/news/sabbathpublictransport042605.htm .  It is to be regretted that this work appears among spiritual jewels.

Its format is quite user friendly.  There are split windows that allow one to view indices while also viewing contents, and to adjust the size of each on the screen.  And navigation among texts is simple.

Hopefully many will avail themselves of this valuable resource, so as to be well equipped to fight the fight of faith.
