WHAT IF JOHN MCCAIN WINS? (OR
EVEN BARACK OBAMA)
Some pollsters and pundits have already dismissed a McCain victory. And the RCP Average of polls at http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2008/president/us/general_election_mccain_vs_obama-225.html shows Obama ahead by more than 5 points:

Obama +5.5 |
But such predictions may be quite premature,
at least in part due to what is often called “the Bradley effect”. Here is how the effect is described at wikipedia:
”The Bradley effect, less
commonly called the Wilder effect,[1][2] is a proposed explanation for an alleged discrepancy
between voter opinion polls and election outcomes
in American political campaigns when a white candidate and a non-white candidate run against each
other.[3][4][5] Named for Tom Bradley, an African-American who lost the 1982 California governor's race despite being
ahead in some voter polls, the Bradley effect refers to an alleged tendency on
the part of some voters to tell pollsters that they are undecided or likely to
vote for a black candidate, and yet, on election day, vote for his/her white
opponent.”

What if John McCain wins
under circumstances where he was trailing in the polls? What will happen then?
The political commentator
James Carville hinted at what may happen in these words at http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0810/07/acd.02.html
:
“Now let me be clear here, if Obama goes in this race with a 5- point lead and losing this election, the consequences are -- bull, man. I mean I don't think that's going to happen, but I think David it's a point to bring up. But you stop and contemplate this country if Obama goes in and he has a consistent five point lead and loses the election, it would be very, very, very dramatic out there.”
And http://www.newsweek.com/id/161214
suggests a similar result:
“…There's not a lot
of anger—yet—but you can start to sense the potential for it.
"I'm going to be mad, real mad, if he doesn't win," says Daetwon Fisher, 21, a construction worker from Long Beach,
Calif. "Because for him to come this far and lose will be just shady and a
slap in black people's faces. I know there is already talk about protests and
stuff if he loses, and I'm down for that." Baisden
hears a lot of that incipient resentment on his show, but he tries to soothe
people rather than incite them…
Yes, there is a real possibility of violence and
riots.
Meanwhile, on the other end of the political spectrum, predominantly white militia groups are making preparations for what may occur after the election. For example, per http://www.michiganmilitia.com/ :

That strikes me as a call to arms.
The reality is that American whites, blacks and Hispanics have
been egregiously disrespectful of the property and sovereignty rights of other
ethnicities, and we should not be surprised if God turns these three groups on
one another in a conflagration of judgment.
