“SECOND
AMERICAN REVOLUTION” RHETORIC
By J. Parnell McCarter
There
is lots of talk today about a Second American Revolution. So I thought I would take a walk around and
find out who is talking about it and what they are saying.
I
first bumped into Patrick J. Buchanan.
You remember him, of course.
“Run, Pat, run!” Or was it “go, Pat, go!” Anyway, here is what Pat had to say about the Second American
Revolution (http://watch.pair.com/megiddo.html):
'Don't wait for orders from headquarters. . .Mount up!' All Buchanan Brigades across the USA find friends, neighbors and co-workers who support our cause. Enlist members and start a local Brigade, get your forces in shape and ready for the battle. Join us, the Buchanan Brigade, and with our united front, we will win the Second American Revolution!"
A campaign memo of his carries forward Pat Buchanan's revolutionary fervor. "[Pat said] 'When I take the oath of office their New World Order comes crashing down!'. . . Pat is going to need us. Not only to stand with him, but to also be courageous enough to embrace the challenge and lead the revolution when necessary. As a Brigade member once said: 'Pitchforks my ***! It's time to lock 'n load for liberty!'"
This memo closed with an appeal for prayer to St. Michael: "PS - Above all, please remember to pray -- Pray for Pat and Shelley, for his staff, for me, and for all of us in the Brigade. And if you happen to be a traditional Catholic, the prayer to Saint Michael the Archangel is needed now more than ever." [Linda Muller, 10/15/99, The Internet Brigade, http://www.buchanan.org]
It
was not hard to walk on over to Worldnetdaily from Pat Buchanan’s, for
Pat is a prominent commentator on Worldnetdaily. (We have documented on Puritan News
Weekly how Pat Buchanan has used his commentaries on Worldnetdaily to
throw barbs at historic Protestantism and to defend traditional Romanism.) Worldnetdaily’s editor is Joseph Farah. Worldnetdaily has no doubt received considerable boost by
being a linked news journal on Romanist Matt Drudge’s very popular Drudge
Report website. In any case, Joseph
Farah also has advocated a “Second American Revolution”. Here is what he has
written at http://www.shopnetdaily.com/store/item.asp?ITEM_ID=1052 :
““It’s time to ignite the Second American Revolution,” writes Joseph Farah, editor and founder of WorldNetDaily.com. “It’s time to celebrate virtue and knowledge again. It’s time to wake up your neighbors so they can once again smell the sweet aroma of freedom ... Let’s take America back.”
I get some flavor of this Second American Revolution advocated in Farah’s book by these two reviewers of his book:
“Here’s what others are saying about this book:
“Joseph Farah and I share a fierce passion for protecting children and a
belief that without the Ten Commandments there would be no U.S. Constitution or
Bill of Rights. Every American who shares our convictions should read this
book.” -- Dr. Laura C. Schlessinger, Author of The Ten Commandments
“Joseph Farah has written a thought-provoking recipe for reclaiming America’s heritage of liberty and self-governance. I don’t agree with all the solutions proposed here, but Farah definitely nails the problems.” -- Rush Limbaugh”
Farah
also wants Solomon’s Temple to be re-built in Jerusalem. Sounds sort of dispensationalist, doesn’t
it? (Actually, it’s Jesuitic as well. Ignatius Loyola wanted the same thing, and
dispensationalists got their ideas by way of a Jesuit book.) Speaking of dispensationalists, I wonder
what Pat Robertson has to say about all this?
Well, I get over to Pat Robertson’s and what do I find? He also believes God is using Christians to start another American Revolution: "We had a war in 1776 that set us free from the shackles of the arbitrary rule of the British crown . . . And I think the time has come that we do that."
Robertson Urges Revolt, Tells Viewers: 'Throw Off the Shackles' of the Courts
On his TV
"700 Club" broadcast today, TV preacher Pat Robertson called on
viewers to revolt against the Supreme Court and "throw off the shackles of
this dictatorship that's been imposed on us." Robertson made his remarks
in his commentary following a news story from Kentucky, where seven school
districts have reportedly posted copies of the Ten Commandments in public
schools in defiance of court rulings banning such postings as
unconstitutional. Robertson likened these events in Kentucky to the
American Revolution. He said:
"Ladies and
gentlemen, I want to say this very clearly. If the people of the United States
of America – all across America, in their churches and in their civic groups
and in their legislatures – decide that they're not going to allow the Supreme
Court to dominate their lives in the fashion that it has in this nation, the
Supreme Court does not have the power to change that. They are not going to be
able to overturn the will of a hundred million American people. And I think the
time has come that we throw off the shackles of this dictatorship that's been
imposed upon us.
"We had
a war in 1776 that set us free from the shackles of the arbitrary rule of the
British crown, and I think what's going in Corbin, Kentucky, boy, those
people like to live free. And I think the time has come that we do that."
Although Pat
Robertson encourages Christians to overthrow the present government and take
back American culture for Christ, he would Last July, "After viewing a 700
Club report on a rally held Monday night by the Military Pagan Network in
support of religious freedom in the military, Reverend Pat Robertson gave a
endorsement to Witches in the military. 'I'm not worried about a little coven
of Witches running around. . . Rather than suppress us all, we might give them
their freedom,' said Reverend Robertson." To which John Machate, Coordinator
of the Military Pagan Network, responded: "Religious tolerance is the
price of religious freedom for all. We were pleased that the Christian
Broadcasting Network attended our press event. Their story was fair and balanced. We thank Reverend Robertson for his support of religious
freedom.'' [Military Pagan Network Inc.]
Taking back American
culture for Christ? Hey, that’s what
lot of theonomists are for too. So I hop on over to http://www.forerunner.com/revolution/as.html
, and I find Andrew Sandlin and a host of other American theonomists advocating
a Second American Revolution. Sandlin
is of course the one that does not believe Roman Catholicism is heretical. Oh, and surprises of surprises, Sandlin also
is a columnist on Worldnetdaily (http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=16307),
along with Patrick Buchanan and Laura Schlessinger.
But
after having taken this walk, I cannot help but wonder why I should want another
American Revolution. Didn’t the first
do enough damage? Do I really want
more? Before the American Revolution
the colonies were generally characterized by reformed Protestant government,
whereas afterwards Rome ascended in power here. F. Tupper Saussy has written a compelling expose of Roman
Catholic involvement and political intrigue in the American Revolution in his
book entitled Rulers of Evil (http://www.rulersofevil.com/). This involvement revolved especially around
the Jesuit Order and the Carroll family of Maryland. So is that really a good thing?
No,
as for me I think I would like another Protestant Reformation, but that on a
grander scale. I want something that
will expose the Vatican for its wickedness, and abolish it. I want a government based in reformed
Christian principles, not something corrupted by Romanism. Problem is, a lot fewer people are talking
about such a renewed Biblical reformation, and a lot more are talking about
another American Revolution.
