The Puritans’ Home School Curriculum has now released its new and extensive church history course, entitled Thy Kingdom Come. This course traces the church’s history from its beginnings in the Old Testament era, through its many trials and travail, to its future victory. It is a two-part series: the first volume covers the Old Testament era of Christ’s church, and the second volume covers the church’s history since Christ’s First Advent.
The second volume is necessarily longer than the first volume. The history of the church during the Old Testament era is quite thoroughly chronicled in the Old Testament of the Bible. Therefore, volume one of the series primarily outlines what scripture records. On the other hand, the history of the church in the New Testament era is outlined in divine prophecy, but not chronicled as events unfold. It therefore requires a longer uninspired history book such as this second volume in order to provide details as to how the prophetic outline in scripture has been actualized.
While the first volume was primarily intended for the elementary and middle school student, the second volume is intended for the high school student. The subject matter, style, vocabulary, and presentation are more advanced in the second volume, since it is intended for a more mature reader. It parallels the way the New Testament administration of the Covenant of Grace is more mature than the Old Testament administration.
The focus of the second volume is upon the Protestant church, since she is the true church of Christ. By ‘Protestant’ is meant that church which adheres to:
The Protestant church brings glory to Christ, for she is Christ’s true church.
Each volume comes with a teacher’s manual to help parents administer the course. The manuals include tests and answer keys.
