Letter to the Elders of the NRC of Grand Rapids Dated March 13, 2023
March 13, 2023
Dear Elders of the NRC of Grand Rapids,
In the recent Prayer Day evening service at Covell, seminarian Mr. Kleijer preached on this text: ““Turn thou us unto thee, O LORD, and we shall be turned; renew our days as of old.” (Lamentations 5:21) He noted the sad religious condition of our nation, and our need to return as a nation by God’s grace to our former Biblically sound condition. Of course, how each of us responds to this call depends upon the station God has providentially placed us. My own station is such that I have but a mustard seed to offer. Yet perhaps God can use it in some way.
With this in mind, I want to inform you of my renewed political effort that is Protestant nationalist in political direction. I am persuaded that both the Three Forms of Unity and the Westminster Standards teach Protestant nationalism. Sadly, American political efforts have largely been bereft of Protestant nationalism, in sharp contrast with political efforts in the Netherlands, Britain, and their colonial settlements during the Protestant Reformation. Given the significant abandonment of Protestant nationalism by professing modern Christians in our political thought and activity, I do not think we should be surprised that we find ourselves now with a modern Babel.
I believe the fundamental political starting point should be amending our State constitution to recognize Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and the Old and New Testaments of the Bible as His word and ultimate authority. It would be correctly objected that since State officers swear to uphold the State constitution, the US Federal Constitution prohibits such amendment as a consequence of its following provisions:
– “… no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States…” (in the body of the Federal Constitution)
– ” … No State shall… deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws…” (in the 14th Amendment, which incorporates the national requirement down to states and localities)
However, this just goes to show the great national sin we committed in illegally abandoning our original Christian national constitution and covenant (the Articles of Confederation) and replacing it with the secular humanist Federal Constitution, which has paved the way for our becoming a modern Babel. It is morally incumbent upon each State of the USA to seek by peaceful means to return to our original constitution and covenant. This is even especially true for Michigan and other States arising out of the Northwest Ordinance, which reads: “…The said territory, and the States which may be formed therein, shall forever remain a part of this Confederacy of the United States of America, subject to the Articles of Confederation, and to such alterations therein as shall be constitutionally made; and to all the acts and ordinances of the United States in Congress assembled, conformable thereto…Done by the United States, in Congress assembled, the 13th day of July, in the year of our Lord 1787, and of their soveriegnty and independence the twelfth.” It clearly and explicitly states that the States coming into existence out of the Northwest Territory would be States under the constitutional authority of the Articles of Confederation unless legally replaced. The Articles of Confederation were never legally amended (its provisions for amendment not followed in its overturn), and so Michigan should be under the Articles of Confederation and not the un-Biblical Federal Constitution. My political efforts will thus be directed to seek by peaceful means constitutional acknowledgment by Michigan of the Lord Jesus Christ and return to the Articles of Confederation, and then the consequent implications, as God gives me grace to do so.
Sincerely,
J. Parnell McCarter
